NEW wooden fencing has been erected on a key pedestrian route in Newton funded by the local neighbourhood budgets of Councillors John Ebo and Adrian Walmsley and Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Newton Lane Bridge is used by the community, children attending Newton Primary School and for students walking to the University of Chester Campus at Kingsway. The new fencing stretches 160 metres. The original fencing on the pedestrian side of the bridge had been in a state of disrepair and parents of children going to the local primary school raised safety concerns because of the drop in the banking adjacent to the bridge.

Bam Nuttall carried out the work which also involved improving the surface of the footway.

Funding is now being sought to replicate the one small stretch of fencing on the other side of the bridge.
