A COUNCILLOR has questioned the timing of roadworks that have closed roads in a village.
Ashton Hayes’ Gongar Lane is closed due to work to replace a collapsed culvert and the Kelsall Road A54 junction is closed due to resurfacing works on the A54.
Now a third set of roadworks on the B5393 between Ashton Hayes and Mouldsworth has begun, with a four-week road closure scheduled to start on March 3. This work is to provide a footpath between Ashton Hayes and Mouldsworth.
Chester City Cllr Andrew Garman said: “The situation looks grim. It is a pity that the various authorities can't get together and co-ordinate these roadworks better. I welcome the improvements, but not the timing.”
Cheshire County Council spokesperson David Hope said: “The road to be closed is a Class 2 road (B5393). The normal recognised practice with any road closure is that we should not use a road of a lower classification for the diversion route.
“Gongar Lane, through part of its length, will not allow two large vehicles to pass each other, so it would not be used as a signposted diversion route.
“Both works have required quite a deal of planning but the Cheshire County Council work has to be done within this financial year.”
