A COUNCILLOR fears Tarporley High Street will become ‘dormant’ unless a limited parking time is introduced.

Cllr Eveleigh Moore Dutton, who serves the Tarporley ward on Cheshire West and Chester Council, is suggesting that a three hour parking limit should be implemented to stop people leaving their cars in the village all day.

She raised the issue at Monday’s Tarporley Parish Council meeting.

Cllr Moore Dutton said: “I want to push for limited time parking in the High Street.

“The intention is to benefit the businesses. We’re encouraging people to come in and spend time in the village but not leave their car there all day to catch a bus or to work.

“We need fewer people parking all day so we get a better turnover. We need to formulate a plan.”

Parish council chairman Ken Parker said they had supported the idea of limited parking in the past and would be keen to see it implemented.

Surveys carried out to help produce the Tarporley Parish Plan back in 2008 revealed more than 60% of villagers believed a time limit should be placed on parking.

Village correspondent and community stalwart Ernest Boynes believes problems arise from people not wanting to use the Royal British Legion or Community Centre car parks, where he argues there is adequate space, and instead park in the High Street.

He said: “The problem isn’t insufficient parking, it’s insufficient parking where people want to park.”

Meanwhile, parish councillors want Cheshire West and Chester Council to implement a restriction on delivery times in High Street to make more parking available.

An area of the road outside the Co-Operative, which is used by the store and other businesses, is reserved for deliveries.

Members are asking for deliveries to be made between 8-10am and 4-6pm so shoppers can park there during the day.

Cllr Graham Lees said: “They do it in other villages.”
