CAMPAIGNERS are delighted that Cheshire West and Chester council have voted to support the continuation of the former Age Concern day centres.

The future of five rural day centres was debated at a full council meeting on Thursday after Eddisbury MP Stephen O’Brien presented a petition with over 2,500 signatures to the Leader and Chief Executive of Cheshire West and Chester Council (CW&C) at their Headquarters.

The presentation and the number of signatures triggered the full council debate.

The petition read: We Support Stephen O’Brien MP’s Campaign to “Save Our Day Care Centres”

“We the undersigned, fully support our local MP Stephen O’Brien, our local representatives, the elderly and vulnerable in the communities of Kelsall, Malpas, Tattenhall, Tarporley and Audlem in their campaign to secure the future or our day care centres.”

At the debate day centre campaigner Chris Whitehurst spoke passionately about the day care centres.

He called on the council to continue to run the day centres until the new body is established and ready to start its new venture. He also called on them to support proposals for grant funding the new organisation to deliver the services communities are asking for.
