CARS causing a road hazard by parking at junctions near a school are to be banned.

The borough council plans to stop vehicles being left at three junctions close to Meadow Primary as part of a wider Safer Routes to School scheme.

It also plans a raised crossing area for children going to the Great Sutton school, and improvements including a traffic calming scheme.

As part of Safer Routes to School, parents and pupils are asked if they encounter any problems on their way to and from schools in the town.

'Summertrees Road is a road they perceive as difficult to cross due to the speed of vehicles and inappropriate parking at junctions,' explains a council report.

'The scheme includes upgrading some of the existing street lighting and providing paving slabs with 'Stop Look and Listen' on them at the dropped and raised crossing points to raise awareness.'

But the council accepted that parking near the junctions with Budworth Road and Kendal Drive was a problem.

The report says: 'As the roads in the vicinity of Meadow Primary are heavily parked at school times, vehicles are parked on Summertrees Road and parents walk their children to school.

'These vehicles become a hazard to pedestrians and motorists.

'To keep these junctions clear, and provide adequate visibility of the raised crossing point, it is proposed to prohibit waiting at the junctions.'

The council has officially given notice of its intention to ban waiting on:

* Both sides of Bud-worth Road from Summertrees Road for 13m in an easterly direction

* Both sides of Kendal Drive from Summertrees Road for 18m in a westerly direction

* Both sides of Summertrees Road for 20m north of the centre line of Budworth Road to 18 south of junction with Kendal Drive.
