A YOUNG biker was killed in rush hour traffic, becoming the latest in a 'very worrying trend' of accidents at a junction.

Cheshire coroner Nicholas Rheinberg made the comment as he heard how Mark Joseph George, 25, was unable to avoid a smash with a Ford Escort which pulled on to the A51 Vicars Cross Road near National Tyre Services.

Electrical maintenance worker Peter Salmons, who was parked in a layby on December 1, said: 'I saw an Escort pull to the side of the road - he was nudging forward all the time but he couldn't go anywhere.

'I heard this skidding from behind me. It was like he was in shock to see the guy coming at his vehicle. He just stayed there - there was nothing he could do.'

Witnesses told the court Mr George, a trainee debt collector from Francis Street, Crewe, was not going fast.

Police arrived and, with the aid of a phrase book, arrested Andrzej Mrugala, the Escort driver.

The 50-year-old, from Vicars Cross Road, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and on May 24 was fined £300, disqualified for 12 months and ordered to take a retest, along with £55 costs.

Now Mr George's father Eddie has called for changes to the traffic flow after engineers said 16 collisions had occurred over 10 years.

Finding Mr George died of head injuries, Mr Rheinberg added: 'It is very worrying that three motorcycle crashes should occur in a very short period of time.'

Verdict: Misadventure.
