POLICE are cracking down on thieves in Chester city centre.

An operation was carried out by both uniformed and plain clothed officers last Saturday who targeted suspects.

There were two arrests for burglary and theft. In one case, police prevented an individual from leaving a shop with a trolley containing £500 worth of unpaid for goods.

PC Martin Redhead said: “There were a lot of positive results from this operation and we received excellent feedback from members of the public.”

In addition, two men were dealt with for drugs offences and one man received summons to court for begging. Several items of stolen property were recovered.
