TEACHERS involved in food technology courses at Chester and Ellesmere Port schools attended a unique Teaching for a future in Food event at West Cheshire College.

The day-long course, run as part of national Colleges Week, was designed to give teachers a chance to work alongside professional chefs and other people in the hospitality and catering industry to highlight the benefits of a career in the field.

Its aim was to enthuse teachers and give them the skills and information needed to encourage the next generation of young chefs and hospitality professionals.

Teaching for a future in food took place at the College’s own highly renowned restaurant The Bridge, based at the Handbridge Campus in Chester, where delegates had a chance to work alongside catering professionals as well as listen to a range of high profile speakers.

Hospitality and Catering Manager Sam Stevens said: “Hospitality and catering encompasses a broad range of career options.

“The aim of the day was to help teachers better understand the breadth of career paths available, the types and levels of training on offer and the job satisfaction that can come with it so they can inspire their students.”
