A COOKERY book for the microwave generation has been launched with a special event at Holt Primary School.

Anne Reney-Smith's Great British Microwave Meals has a section for children and is designed to encourage young people to make themselves healthy food in minutes in the microwave.

She demonstrated this on Monday as she launched her book, which is priced at £2.99 and available at Lakeland in Chester until Christmas.

'I wanted to show children that there are easy and healthy foods they can make themselves in a microwave in the same time it takes to throw in a ready-meal,' she said.

'There are plenty of fun desserts for them as well. My favourite is the fab cake cornet, a cake in an ice-cream cone that only takes one minute.

'Microwaves are a great way to cook, you don't have to eat pre-prepared microwave meals to get the most out of them. Hopefully the children I have spoken to in Holt will now take an interest in cooking so that it is not a total mystery to them when they grow up.'
