nAFFORDABLE housing is a priority for Conservatives in Eddisbury and Cheshire.Š It is only right that people who live and work in our area but who can’t afford to buy on the open market have the opportunity to remain in the areas where they have family, work and their community roots.

But funding for social housing has been cut by half since 1997, which is why not enough money has been made available for affordable housing in our area.

That is why Conservatives are planning to introduce new measures to help local people and young families take their first step onto the housing ladder, including:

Scrapping stamp duty for first-time buyers on homes up to £250,000, so that nine out of ten pay nothing

Abolishing home information packs which have made moving house even more expensive and difficult.

Rewarding councils for building more homes and promoting local economic growth, by allowing them to keep some of the proceeds from council tax and business rates – currently they receive nothing from new development.

Work with local communities to set up new local housing trusts, to build new affordable homes for local people.
