Traffic is now easing on the M53 southbound towards Chester and Ellesmere Port following an earlier incident this morning (Friday, September 9).

Travel website Inrix reported slow moving traffic at 7.40am due to one lane being blocked at junction five, Eastham, which was believed to have been caused by a broken down vehicle although this was not confirmed.

The website said it was 'affecting traffic away from Birkenhead towards Ellesmere Port' with queueing traffic and conditions 'heavier than normal' but by 8.50am traffic was said to have returned to normal.
