Police are becoming increasingly concerned for the safety of a missing Macclesfield man.

Jim Newnes, 48, was reported missing by his worried family on Saturday night (July 30) after he was last seen at his home address in the Gawsworth area of the town at 1pm earlier that day.

Cheshire Constabulary say this behaviour is 'completely out of character' for Mr Newnes and are appealing for the public's help in tracing him.

He is described as 5’ 11” tall, of slim build and bald.

He was last seen wearing grey trainers, a green lightweight jacket, mauve coloured t-shirt and jeans.

Mr Newnes is a keen runner so could have changed into shorts and a t-shirt.

Inspector Claire Jesson said: “Extensive enquiries are currently being carried out to trace Jim.

"We are concerned for Jim’s welfare as this is completely out of character for him to not be in touch with any family or friends.

"We have numerous resources involved in the search and are appealing to anyone who has any information, which could assist with our enquiries to get in touch.

"Jim is a keen walker and runner and uses many local routes in the town.

"I would urge anyone who may have seen Jim – or anyone matching his description to contact us. I would also appeal to Jim himself to make contact if he can and let us know he is ok.”

Anyone with any information is urged to call Cheshire police on 101 quoting incident number 1039 of July 30, 2016.
