HUNDREDS of employees in Halton could be turning into work with hangovers so severe, their workplace performance is affected.

A report by PruHealth on North West businesses found one in five 18-25-year-olds goes to work with a hangover once a fortnight or more.

A fifth of hung-over employees in the North make mistakes at work.

And a quarter of companies are taking steps to measure how many days people are the worse for wear because of alcohol.

It also found 15% of 18- to 30-year-olds go to work with a hangover at least every other week.

A total of 78% of those surveyed admitted hangovers make a difference to the way they work.  A  third (29%) say they 'drift off and don't work at their usual pace', 27% suffer headaches and can't concentrate and 58% admit they 'muddle through the day'.

Nick Read, PruHealth direct marketing and partnerships director, said: 'Not only is binge-drinking terrible for your health, a hangover also affects your performance at work and companies are starting to catch on.'
