THREE councillors for Overleigh are supporting clean-up days in their local communities of Lache and Handbridge

Councillors Arthur Harada, Razia Daniels and Richard Short have funded two skips and ‘white goods’ collections through their member grant budgets – with one event in Lache already taking place.

A skip was placed in Lache Community Centre car park with many residents taking the opportunity to bring along and dispose of their unwanted bulky items.

‘White goods’ such as fridges, TV’s and washing machines were also collected and disposed of by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Councillor Arthur Harada said: “The event in Lache was a great opportunity for the community to come together to clean-up the area and target potential issues.

“We, as councillors for Overleigh, fully support the residents in their efforts to keep their neighbourhoods clean and tidy and are happy to fund initiatives such as these.”

Assisting Cheshire West and Chester’s Waste Management team on the day were Mike O’Sullivan from Chester District Housing Trust, local resident Steve Jones from Lache Garden Village, Lache Community Safety Wardens representative Sharon Adair and Danny Spencer and Blake Duckers from the Lache Young Generation Group. A second clean up day is now scheduled for Saturday, January 21, in Handbridge.

Members’ budget grants of £5,000 are allocated to each councillor at the beginning of each financial year and must be used within a ward for community benefit.

Any community group, organisation or individual can apply to their local councillor for aid with funding for a project. Grants must be in excess of £250.
