Chester businesswoman Helen Conway “went global” after television cameras at the Commonwealth Games captured her tense facial expressions before a race.

Helen, 46, who runs Bodyworks Pilates on Victoria Road in the city was at the stadium in Glasgow waiting for the women’s hurdles race to begin on Thursday night featuring Scottish athlete, Eilidh Child.

Helen was filmed with hands clasped in a prayer-like fashion staring intently in Eilidh’s direction.

Such were Helen’s facial expressions, television viewers could be forgiven for thinking Helen knew the athlete.

Eilidh Child herself tweeted that she was curious to find out who her passionate supporter was.

Although Helen does not in fact know the Scot she said she was happy to see her and all of the athletes performing well.

Helen who lives in Wrexham with husband Russ, 58, said: “I was born in Liverpool so am here to support England.

“But I’m half Irish, live in Wales and am visiting Scotland so I suppose I’m supporting everyone really.

“These are my first Commonwealth Games and it’s been just incredible.  It’s been absolutely brilliant and the atmosphere has been phenomenal.  Everyone is having a great time.

“I love athletics and am something of a frustrated runner because I have a knee injury.”

Of her new found “fame” Helen said she was surprised.

She said: “I can’t believe it really.  I was so engrossed with the hurdles race I had no idea my picture was being broadcast on large screens (inside the stadium).

“And although I didn’t see the clip, I believe I was on the television news too.

“Apparently there are clips of me all over Facebook as well so I’ve gone global.

“It’s unbelievable really.”

Eilidh also went on to show her gratitude for all of the incredible support she received that day.
