RUNCORN'S Canal Boat Adventure Project celebrated its 30th birthday in style with a party attended by its patron Ken Dodd.

More than 80 guests turned out to toast the project which gives young people the opportunity to make a success of their lives.

A treat was in store for the partygoers when legendary comedian Ken Dodd previewed his Royal Variety Show performance at the Bridgewater Motor Boat Club.

Peter Watts, manager of Webbs Builders Merchants, represented company owner Tex Janes in handing over a plaque recognising the company's refurbishment of the Halton Explorer canal boat.

The Canal Boat Adventure Project's founder member, Peter Jenkinson, and chair and full-time volunteer manager, Norma Hornby, paid tribute to the young people whose achievements have been praised by Gordon Brown. They also thanked supporters and volunteers.
