A traffic collision on the M56 westbound near junction 12 is causing severe congestion for motorists heading towards Chester this morning (Friday, June 26).

The collision, which is understood to involve two vehicles, occurred shortly before 9am.

A spokeswoman for Cheshire police said: "The incident is believed to involve a Peugeot and a Land Rover."

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, which sent three fire engines to the scene, say two casualties were handed into the care of paramedics.

According to Highways England, lanes two and three are closed while emergency services deal with the incident but normal traffic conditions are expected from 10.45am.

Motorists are advised to approach the area with caution.
