AN ELLESMERE Port man has died following a collision with a lorry yesterday.

The man, who has not been named yet, was driving a silver Ford Mondeo towards North Wales at the time of the collision, at Shotwick traffic lights.

Cheshire police say the 38-year-old motorist, who was alone, died from his injuries at the scene.

The lorry driver, who was heading towards the M56, suffered shock.

Police spokeswoman Jacqui Hanson said: 'The collision happened at 5.15am.

'The Mondeo driver is from Ellesmere Port but has not been formally named yet.'

She added: 'Following the collision, the road was closed until

9.15am and long queues and tailbacks carried into North Wales.

'Anyone who saw the accident should call PC Joe Fitzgerald at Ellesmere Port Police Station on 01244 350000.'

Meanwhile, in a separate accident, two people had to be cut from their cars at the Moston traffic lights at 7.39pm on Monday.

A black Peugeot driven by a 21-year-old woman from Little Sutton was in collision with a blue Ford Focus driven by a 62-year-old man from Little Sutton.

Ellesmere Port firefighters cut away the roof of the Peugeot to free the trapped woman and forced open the door of the Ford to free the man.

Mrs Hanson said the woman suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and went to the Countess of Chester Hospital. The man suffered cuts, bruises and a leg injury.

Witnesses to this collision should also call PC Fitzgerald.
