A number of shops at Coliseum Shopping Park remain closed after flash floods battered Ellesmere Port this week.

The retail complex's 22 stores were forced to evacuate on Tuesday (June 14), after torrential rain and storms wrought havoc.

Water in the car park 'easily reached' 2ft deep at one point, according to firefighter Mark Downey.

Ten retailers were affected in total, some of which are back trading.

But Game, River Island, Gift Company, Next, Maplin and Thomson are among those still closed. Boots is also closed although the Coliseum branch is still taking emergency prescriptions.

A spokesperson for Coliseum Shopping Park, however, told The Chronicle it is 'business as usual'.

“Part of the Coliseum Shopping Park has been affected by heavy rainfall in the area," they said.

“We are working with the affected stores to get them trading again at the earliest opportunity, and four of the 10 retailers affected have already re-opened.

“It is business as usual for the centre, with the car park and majority of stores open, including Debenhams, New Look, H&M, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, JD Sports, Costa Coffee, Outfit, Sports Direct, Deichmann, Carphone Warehouse, O2, Card Factory and Burger King.”
