Sixth Form students at Queen’s Park High School are benefiting from significant investment from Edsential in a new state-of- the-art coffee shop.

From flat whites to mochas, speciality teas to hot chocolate, ‘The Beach’ Coffee Shop is bringing a taste of the high street to the sixth form centre.

The Beach was officially opened by assistant headteacher and director of sixth form Clare Scanlon.

Edsential’s managing director Ian McGrady said: “Edsential are proud to be part of this fantastic project. We were set up to help improve outcomes for young people and The Beach is a great example of how we can help an innovative school.

“By creating a retail society that allows sixth formers to get involved in running the business, we are providing real life skills and experience that will give them an edge when it comes to starting their careers.

“As a community interest company we were able to take a risk and invest in the café, knowing that the benefits we will achieve can be measured in more than just financial terms. We look forward to seeing The Beach flourish both as a business and by inspiring Queen’s Park High School’s sixth formers to become our future entrepreneurs.”

The coffee shop is open for students every day between 8am and 2pm, Monday to Friday, serving breakfast and lunch, offering a wide range of hot and cold food, including bacon baps, croissants and cakes.

This new innovation is proving very popular with both staff and students, there is a definite ‘thumbs up’ as the student’s tuck into their hot drinks and snacks each day.

Clare Scanlon added: “This is an exciting venture both as a new facility for our students and the opportunities afforded to those involved in the Retail Society to develop their understanding of how the business works. The students (and staff) have embraced it with open arms and we look forward to the development of the outside area in the spring term.”
