A MULTI-MILLION pound sports facility will include the regeneration and relocation of Helsby Community Sports Club.

Plans for the advanced centre – described as a vision for sport, recreation and leisure – include new pitches, tennis courts, bowling greens, a fishing pond and a 1km running loop.

The new centre, proposed at Mere’s Edge, could incorporate the development of the existing club for retirement homes and family housing and feature a nature reserve.

Andrew Brown, planning and land manager for developers Brookhouse Group, said: “The new scheme will focus on a multi-purpose sports centre that will be open for use for the whole community. New housing will be developed on the site of the existing club to assist in generating the necessary funds for the new sports club.

“The development proposals have been formulated through a partnership between Helsby Community Sports Club and the Brookhouse Group. The scheme is an exciting opportunity to involve the whole community and leave a longstanding legacy for the village.”

A consultation will be held at Helsby Community Sports Club on Saturday, January 17, from 10-4pm.
