THE Lord Mayor of Chester has received a top Scout award on behalf of the city.
The Cornwell Scout Badge was presented to Cllr James Latham, by the District Commissioner David Bull.
The badge is named after John Travers Cornwell, known as Jack, who was awarded the Victoria Cross posthumously. Jack, 15, served on HMS Chester at the Battle of Jutland and continued to serve his gun even though the rest of the crew were killed and he was mortally wounded.
David King, secretary of the Chester and District Scout Fellowship, said: “The badge is given to Scouts under the age of 20 who have shown high character and devotion to duty.
“The fellowship decided to give the badge to the City of Chester to commemorate Jack’s service on the HMS Chester.”
