A NEW drama pilot is being shot in Chester this week, revealing the secrets of acting and the “method actor”.

Pidgin Productions’ An Actor Prepares is the first dramatisation of the book by Konstantin Stanislavski.

Filming has been taking place at Bishop Lloyd’s Palace and the Grosvenor Museum.

Writer/director David Ciano said: “An Actor Prepares is much more than just a textbook explaining the inward preparation an actor must undergo in order to explore his or her role to the full.

“Part of Stanislavski’s genius was to write down his ideas on acting in the form of a fictional diary kept by a young and enthusiastic student embarking on his training as an actor.”

This dramatisation of some of the ideas contained within what has become almost ‘The Bible’ for anyone with an interest in great acting, is based both on extensive research into Stanislavski’s early life and the ideas within An Actor Prepares.

Mr Ciano added: “In this dramatisation I have attempted to respond to the title of the book in two ways. We see actors preparing for a career in the theatre and, at the same time, we see a group of young individuals preparing for life as an adult.”

Pidgin Productions was established in 1998, a Liverpool based non-profit making organisation.

It provides a range of practical support services to individuals and groups interested in promoting cultural diversity within moving image media.

The film is due to compete at the Cannes Film Festival in May in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section. Its aim is to bring film-making with a distinctive viewpoint to the attention of Cannes audiences.
