FOOTBALL stars who combine their passion for the beautiful game with their enjoyment of after-match celebrations have unveiled their new kit.

Christleton All Stars, which includes former schoolboy internationals and semi-professional players, have received the kit, which is sponsored by The Ring O’Bells pub in Christleton.

The pub also sponsors AFC Waverton under-sevens, who are unbeaten this season.

The veterans compete for the Mitch Baines Cup, an annual football tournament held in honour of former Christleton veteran team player Mitch who died of leukaemia.

By competing for the cup and by holding a curry and disco night at the Ring O’ Bells, £620 was raised by the team for Leukaemia Research.

Cliff Mallows, whose son Sam is assistant manager at The Ring O’Bells, founded the team in 1996.

Ian Wade, owner of The Ring O’Bells, said: “We are really pleased to support the community in Christleton and to sponsor a local football team, especially a team that raises money for charity.”

Simon Mageean, former Tranmere Rovers youth team and regular veteran player, said: “Team members are from all walks of life but they are interested in keeping football playing alive in their senior years.

“The team is centred on Christleton but players travel from as far as Ruthin and Heswall. ”
