The Chester Chronicle has been shortlisted for two awards in the 'Oscars' of regional journalism.

The Chronicle team is up for Online Media Award at the 2015 O2 Media Awards North West, while reporter Carmella De Lucia has been shortlisted for Weekly Journalist of the Year.

Rhiannon Hilton from our sister newspaper the Crewe Chronicle is up for Young Reporter of the Year, and former Chester Chronicle photographer Ian Cooper who now works for the Liverpool Echo, has been nominated in the Images of the Year category.

Trinity Mirror Cheshire Executive Editor Michael Green said: "We are delighted with the nomination for the Online Media Award and to see Carmella De Lucia making the shortlist for Weekly Journalist of the Year and Rhiannon Hilton nominated for Young Reporter of the Year.

"Carmella's work on human interest stories, her own Women Today page and the development of our Nostalgia section has been exceptional over the past year and we really hope she gets the award she deserves.

"Rhiannon has been one of the stars of our South Cheshire titles for some time now and during the past year has also been getting involved in actually putting those editions together so it is wonderful to see her getting such recognition.

"We were overjoyed when we won the New Media Award last year and are very keen to retain our title although we do appreciate we are up against some tough opposition from the likes of such major operations as ITV Granada and the Lancashire Telegraph."

The Chronicle enjoyed a triumphant night at last year's awards, beating off stiff competition to win the prestigious New Media title.

With more than 360 individual entries, the O2 Awards are the biggest regional press awards in the country and the winners of this year's accolades will be announced at a ceremony hosted by BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin on November 12 at Chester Racecourse.

More than 25 working editors and executives from newspapers, magazines, broadcasters and on-line publications were involved in the judging process.
