THE Chronicle is declaring its enthusiastic support for Chester’s bid to become the 2017 British City of Culture.

And we are throwing down the gauntlet to readers, businesses and organisations throughout the city to join us in singing Chester’s cultural praises.

We may not have a city centre cinema and our new theatre is still a few years away from opening but just take a look at the incredible line-up of cultural events coming our way this summer:

The Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre; Chester Mystery Plays; Chester Rocks; MBNA Chester Music Festival; Midsummer Watch Parade; the Moonlight Flicks open air movie season.

These are just the headline events of an action-packed 2013 which just this week saw the city centre burst into life with a St George’s Day Parade and performance.

But time is fast running out - details of the initial bid have to completed in time for the April 30 deadline.

To support Chester’s bid for City of Culture 2017follow the campaign on twitter @backchester2017, ‘like’ the Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/backchester2017 or visit a new website www.chester2017.co.uk where people can back the bid directly.

There will be regular news updates and the opportunity to send messages of support, ask questions, and submit photographs and videos of events.
