FIVE students have been commended for their entrepreneurial skills.

Christleton High School Year 10 pupil Daniel Palmer was highly commended for his efforts in the Make Your Mark with a Tenner competition.

With £10 and shrewd negotiation skills Daniel hosted a fundraising evening in support of charity The Legacy Rainbow House, which supports children with severe disabilities.

After negotiating with the Farndon Arms and securing a free slot for his event on a quiet weekday evening, Daniel got to work engaging a wide range of partners and supporters to help make his event happen.

With his tenner as a deposit for the venue, Daniel was able to secure the services of a quiz master, advertising and promotion from radio station Dee106.3 without spending a penny.

From his initial £10 capital Daniel made £121.79 profit which was donated to The Legacy Rainbow House.

Daniel, 14, said: “I am an individual who is confident and enjoys challenges.

“I used my negotiation skills to get organisations to offer their services for free, in order to support a good cause, while gaining additional customers and free advertising.”

Year 10 student team Me and I – Bertie Walker, Hammish Drummon-Hay, Bradley Tong, Carl Holt, all 15, also enjoyed success in the Student Investor Competition.

The group had to invest £100,000 of virtual money into the stock market. In the regional final they answered questions regarding current affairs.

They came 18th out of more than 8,000 groups and came third in the North Wales and English Midlands Regional Final.

Teacher Emma Simpson said: “ The boys did extremely well in this competition as they were competing mainly with Year 12 and 13 students.

“I am so proud of my students.”
