THE grounds of Cholmondeley Castle will host one of the biggest sporting events staged in Cheshire.

Organisers of a swimming, cycling and running challenge are promising to deliver a spectacular triathlon with camping available for competitors and families.

The event will take place across the weekend of June 26-27 with funds being raised for the charity Help for Heroes.

It is expected to be one of the largest sporting entertainment events to be held in Cheshire with a cashpot of £5,000 for the overall race series winners.

Telemark Productions is running the event which is being sponsored by Zoggs, Multipower, CherryActive, Synthetix and Bulk SMS.

Cholmondeley Castle estate manager James Hall said: “We’re delighted to be teaming up with Telemark Productions and Help for Heroes to host our first triathlon on the estate.

“We look forward to building the event for the future and hope this is the first triathlon of many to take place in our beautiful and unique setting.”

There will be five different races for various age groups all starting with a swim across Deer Park Mere Lake before a cycle around Bickerton Hill and finishing with a run across the castle grounds.

Elite triathlete and world age-group silver medalist Jill Parker backed the event, saying: “What an amazing line up of events, really quite phenomenal and the base for the triathlon is such an inspiration for the actual race itself.”

Places are limited to 2,000 entries which cost £70 and £50 for individuals, £105 and £95 for teams.
