A SCHOOL choir will be singing with the stars after winning a Cheshire-wide competition.

Woodfall Primary School Junior Choir in Little Neston has won the first-ever choir competition run by The Neuromuscular Centre (NMC) in Winsford.

The young singers will now get to perform at the charity’s Spirit of Christmas event at Chester Cathedral on Friday, November 28. The concert is hosted by actor and presenter Matthew Kelly with guest star actor Nathaniel Parker, otherwise known as Inspector Lynley from the BBC series.

Nathaniel said: “I’m delighted to have been invited to this fabulous event in aid of such an amazing and unique charity, and I am very much looking forward to doing some Chester Christmas shopping!”

The choir also won a digital piano, which was presented by a representative from Dawsons Music, sponsor of the competition along with Chester’s Dee 106.3 FM.

Lucy Clement, the teacher in charge of the choir, said that the children were delighted and surprised to win.

“We knew that we would be up against some stiff competition,” she said.

“The children are very excited.”

The choir sang In the Bleak Midwinter and Joy to the World to enter the competition and the youngsters will sing these two carols at the concert.

Abbeygate School in Chester came second followed by Cantabile from Overleigh St Mary’s CE Primary School in Handbridge and then Upton Heath Primary School.

There are still tickets available for Spirit of Christmas at £17.50 and £10 or VIP tickets at £50 which include a champagne and canapé reception in the refectory and a chance to chat to some of the guest stars. Tickets from Leanne at The NMC on 01606 861733 or email leanne.marsden@nmcentre.com.
