A FRODSHAM fish and chip shop has scored highly with its latest idea - a raffle offering footballing prizes signed by top soccer stars to raise money for the Fisherman's Mission.

The 4 Seasons 4 Food chippy in Main Street, Frodsham, will be giving away prizes such as footballs signed by the Manchester City, Chester City and Tranmere Rovers teams and a signed Everton shirt.

Proprietor Phil Burgess, a lifelong Liverpool supporter, is holding the raffle to coincide with National Chip Week, an event organised by the British Potato Council which runs from Monday to Sunday, February 13-19.

All the money raised will go towards the Fisherman's Mission, a charity which offers support to fishermen injured at sea and the families of seamen who lose their lives every year trying to catch fish for local shops to sell.

Mr Burgess said: 'These people are out in all weathers, all risking their lives so that shops like mine can stock fresh fish.

'I really wanted to promote the charity and national chip week seemed like a good excuse!'

The shop is also selling special scratchcards, with national star prizes of five holiday breaks to Europe to see an international football match.

Mr Burgess said that he would also add his own prizes of 50 free portions of chips and a football for every 1,000 cards - which cost £1 a strip - he is able to sell.

Although the events are being held for chip week, both raffle tickets and scratchcards will be available before the start of the week and will run until they have been sold.
