STANLAW Abbey Children's Centre, formerly Stanlaw Abbey Primary, was unveiled on Friday.
The senior civil servant leading the Government's Sure Start programme, Naomi Eisenstadt, opened the centre on Stanney Grange estate. She was joined by families and borough and county council representatives.
Borough MP Andrew Miller attended and said: 'I was delighted to hear Sure Start chairman Michael Darby describe this as the Government's best idea. He was absolutely right.
'I am proud of this achievement and excited at the prospect of seeing the next phase of development in Neston, followed by other centres elsewhere.
'But this isn't just about buildings, this is a long-term project bringing together health, education and social care in communities that will transform the life chances of our next generation.
'Sure Start is clear evidence of Labour's commitment to our community, and I will continue to press for this investment to carry on.'
