Pupils from St Martin’s Academy in Hoole have shared a story with people living at a nearby retirement lodge.

Year 1 children performed The Three Little Pigs at Churchill Retirement Living’s Eaton Lodge on Hoole Way before listening to stories read by two of the owners.

The visit marks the start of a partnership between the two establishments.

Class teacher Lizzie O’Donoghue said: “The children were delighted at the opportunity to visit everyone at Eaton Lodge and were so excited to perform for the residents and staff. It was lovely to hear the owners share stories with us too. It’s very important for us to make links in our community and this marks the start of a very special relationship.

“The children’s journey to becoming fluent readers will benefit greatly from the opportunity to read and being read to by adults from different generations will be thoroughly enjoyed.

“We’re looking forward to visiting regularly and welcoming everyone from Eaton Lodge into our school.”

Owner Christine Davis reads to pupils

Christine Davies, who read to the children, said: “It was so nice to see how well the children are being taught. They were very polite and they all looked so smart, they are a credit to St Martin’s Academy. How nice, that our different generations can interact and learn from each other.”

Lodge manager Corrina Thorley said: “We thoroughly enjoyed the visit from the children and their performance of The Three Little Pigs was brilliant. It’s great for the owners to take on projects like this. Volunteering your time and attention to someone else is very fulfilling and I’m sure it will be mutually beneficial for the owners and the children.”
