CHILDREN and staff at Eaton Primary School have been teaching and learning about Fairtrade.

Heather Swainston, from the Cheshire Development Education Centre – Developing Global Learning, visited the school during Fairtrade Fortnight to lead a whole school assembly on Fairtrade.

Afterwards she worked with years 3, 4, 5 and 6 on the journey of a banana from the Caribbean and who would get what if a banana cost 30p.

Heather said: “The children had some fantastic ideas and were outraged that farmers get so little.

“Fairtrade is a way of making sure the farmers get a decent price and a premium.”
