A 12-year-old boy was taken to hospital after an alleged assault at Helsby High School on the last day before the half-term break.

Police were called to the school, on Chester Road, shortly after 9am on Friday, October 24.

A pupil, aged 12, was taken to hospital for treatment for a head injury and needed stitches, police have confirmed.

The boy returned home a short time later.

A spokesperson for Cheshire police, who confirmed that the alleged incident had taken place on school grounds, said: “The incident took place on school premises and police continue to work with the school to establish the circumstances surrounding the assault.”

Cheshire West and Chester Council confirmed that an incident had taken place at the school, but could not comment any further.

This is the second reported case of a child being injured at the school in six months, after a girl from year 10 was taken to hospital on June 25 following an incident involving a group of pupils. She was believed to have received treatment for facial injuries.
