SEVEN Chester Fencing Club fencers travelled to the Institute of Sport in Sheffield to compete in the British Youth Championships 2011.

Kristofers Scipanovs of Catholic High School and Ryan Gaskel of Tarporley High School fenced in the under 16 boys foil representing North West. Kristofers came 20th out of 68 and Ryan 54th.

Sam Carson of Tarporley High and Christopher Smith of Christleton High competed in the under 18 boys foil for the NW and came 40th and 42th.

Tom Cronin of Tarvin Primary and James Craig from Christleton High fenced in the Under 12 boys representing NW and came 46th and 48th.

George Dolan represented Wales and came 17th in the Under 14 boys foil.

George Morris was representing Wales in both epee and foil competitions, due to finishing first in both weapons when the Welsh qualifiers were held in Cardiff earlier this year.

George finished third in the epee competition, his preferred weapon, and ninth using his foil.

The third annual Cheshire High School Fencing Tournament culminated in the finals at Christleton Sports Centre.

Following previous rounds, Tarporley High and Christleton High were in the lead. Christleton team captain Christopher Smith clinched victory for his school.

Bishops’ Blue Coat team claimed bronze thanks to team captain Marco Simioni against rival King’s School captain Bede Timpson.
