A CHESTER pupil took the title of under-8s chess champion at a recent schools chess competition.

Eight-year-old Iniya Muraari Anand was crowned overall winner of the Cheshire and North Wales under-8s at the recent Delancey UK School Chess Challenge.

She gained a level five at the Manchester Megafinal and will now progress to the Gigafinal.

Felicity Taylor, head of The Queen’s School lower school, said: “Iniya is such a talented girl and chess is just one of her many passions. Congratulations to her for this fantastic achievement.”
