FAMILIES enjoying the warm Easter weather can cool down at Chester’s water-based outdoor park.

Sandy Lane Aqua Park, situated on the banks of the River Dee, opens for the summer season this Saturday (April 23).

It features 10 spray facilities which children can run through and get wet, and is fully accessible for wheelchairs.

The aqua park is surrounded by a grassed area with picnic tables which benefit from stunning views over the river and The Meadows beyond.

The council-owned play area offers free car parking, a dry play area and toilet facilities.

There is also a food kiosk selling hot and cold drinks, ice creams, light snacks and a selection of sandwiches.

Helen Pearce, leisure development health and wellbeing manager, said: “Sandy Lane is a popular leisure destination for families all year round and the aqua park has become a firm favourite for summer fun.

“With the warm weather set to continue, I am sure the opening weekend will attract families from across Chester and beyond.

“Set in picturesque surroundings, with free parking and facilities on site, the aqua park has all the ingredients for a great family day out.”

Sandy Lane Park is open all year round. The aqua park and toilets are open every day from 11am-5pm from April 16 until September 25, subject to weather.

The aqua park is just one of the many attractions on the River Dee. Events taking place on or along the river during the next few months include nature walks, Chester Regatta, Chester Half Marathon, sailing and much more.
