PLANS for a £500,000 all-weather pitch at a Chester secondary school have been withdrawn so objections can be addressed.

The scheme by Queen’s Park High School in Handbridge was intended for use by pupils and the community but led to residents’ concerns about disturbance from floodlighting and noise in the evenings.

As the first phase of a sports masterplan, the application was for an all-weather multi-use sports pitch on the existing playing field to the south of the main school buildings.

In addition, a single-storey maintenance and toilet building was proposed next to the school gym.

School spokesman Chris Clayton confirmed the plans had been withdrawn but would be resubmitted ‘in a week or so”.

He added: “We are looking to address a lot of the neighbour objections. We don’t want people to think for one instance that the scheme was angled at being a commercial football pitch. The proposals were primarily as a school pitch.

“We were initially encouraging sharing our facilities, that spirit of sharing was behind the evening use and floodlights, but that contradicts the residential amenity so we are taking stock and will resubmit.”
