CHESTER’S newest supermarket has celebrated its launch with a donation to a local charity.

Joyce Jones, a trustee for Chester and District Federation of the Blind, was the guest of honour when the new Tesco Express store on Delamere Street opened.

Joyce was invited to cut a ribbon to declare the new store officially open for business.

As part of the opening celebrations, store manager Paul Beverly and his staff presented Joyce with a cheque for £500.

The store chose to donate to the Chester and District Federation of the Blind as part of its commitment to helping local organisations.

Joyce said: “I would like to thank Tesco for the kind donation, it is much appreciated and will go towards transport for people who are blind or partially sighted, bringing them to our clubs and to our IT training sessions.”

Tesco Express store manager Paul said: “We were delighted to be able to support the Chester and District Federation of the Blind as they do such fantastic work locally. We are so pleased that Joyce came to launch the new store, and join in the celebrations with us.”

The store is now open from 6am – 11pm, seven days a week, and has the added convenience of a free cash machine, National Lottery terminal, bakery, two self-service tills and beers, wines and spirits.
