Hit period drama Poldark will boast another enigmatic male character among its ranks in its third series – played by Chester’s very own Josh Whitehouse.

The former Queen’s Park High School pupil will star as Lieutenant Hugh Armitage, a prisoner of war who previously enjoyed a world of privilege as a member of the aristocracy.

Josh has tantalisingly revealed that romantic Hugh goes on a ‘real journey’ and ‘being true to one’s heart rarely comes without a cost’.

Working on the show – which is filmed in Cornwall – has been ‘a lovely experience’, he says, adding: “The cast and crew have been so kind and welcoming to me, things have been running very smoothly and everything is so well organised.”

Josh’s big break was landing the leading role in 2014 indie flick Northern Soul, which remarkably was also his first ever acting gig.

Such is his rising star, the More Like Trees frontman was chosen to be the face of the fragrance Mr Burberry earlier this year.

Next year will see the release of two films he’s acted in – drama The Receptionist by Jenny Lu and bittersweet comedy-drama Modern Life is Rubbish by Dan Gill.

He said: “There are a few things bubbling away which I am really excited for people to see in 2017, in the meantime I am working on a second album for More Like Trees and enjoying the land of Poldark up until around February next year.”
