THERE may be less than 100 days until Christmas but festive fever has gripped Chester Zoo.

Gone are the reminders of summer and out has come the tinsel and decorations as work starts on building Santa’s Lapland Journey – an integral part of the zoo’s annual Frost Fair extravaganza.

Between now and the opening date on November 27, a dedicated team is pulling out all the stops to turn the zoo into a magical winter wonderland.

A new line-up has also been revealed for this year’s event, which runs until January 11. Alongside the ever-popular ice rink there will be a host of entertainment to keep visitors enthralled.

The fun includes the amazing Silver Man who will be entertaining the crowds with fire-juggling and stilt walking during weekends and school holidays, there will be the popular Santa’s Lapland Journey, the loveable characters Waddle and Frosty, and a carousel. New to the Frost Fair this year will be a giant sparkling snow globe which visitors will be able to sit in and have their pictures taken.

Liz Thwaite, head of visitor services, said: “Most people are reluctant to start thinking about Christmas but here at Chester Zoo we’ve been planning for it for some months now. The Lapland Journey alone takes weeks to build and decorate so we can’t afford to sit back.

“We are pulling out all the stops this year to ensure visitors have a dazzling time.”
