A community theatre company is celebrating the success of its latest show after all the tickets available for its run sold out days before opening night.

Chester and Wrexham-based Tip Top Productions staged the hit musical Grease at Theatr Clwyd from October 5-8 with all five performances selling out in advance of the show’s opening night.

Peter Swingler OBE, founder and chairman of Tip Top, said: “When I first launched Tip Top in 1989 I never imagined that one day we would open at Theatr Clwyd having sold out all five performances totalling just under 3,000 tickets before first night.

“Grease is the best-selling show in Tip Top’s history and the nightly standing ovations gave witness to the exceptional production values delivered by director Steve Davies along with MD Tim Jones and choreograpaher Rhian Underwood, not to mention our very talented cast and highly dedicated production team.”

Since 2007, Tip Top, a registered charity and community theatre company, has been based at the Forum Studio Theatre and recently acquired its own premises in Wrexham, which provides them with enhanced rehearsal facilities.

As well as a presenting a full season of plays and other events at the Forum Studio in Chester, the company has for many years presented large-scale productions at Theatr Clwyd and enjoys an excellent relationship with the Mold venue.

Following on from the success of Grease and back at the Forum Studio Theatre, the company is now focusing its attention on preparations for staging Chester’s very own traditional family pantomime which has become a firm favourite in the city’s calendar of Christmas events.

This year’s offering, once again written by Peter Swingler, is Jack and The Beanstalk starring Joe Woolford, best known as a contestant on the 2015 series of The Voice on BBC 1 where he was mentored by Rita Ora. Earlier this year Joe represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest as one half of the duo Jake and Joe.
