A young woman who suffered from anxiety will launch a campaign in January which aims to raise awareness of a mental health charity.
Alice Naomi Somauroo from Chester will launch the Smile 4 Mind campaign in aid of Mind, a charity which helps and supports those with mental health problems.
The 23-year-old is hoping to raise awareness of the campaign by getting as many people as possible to post a picture on social media of themselves smiling and holding up the word ‘SMILE’.
Celebrities, businesses and schools are being encouraged to join in by using the hashtag #smile4mind with their picture and by tagging friends and family they would also like to see smiling.
Alice, a self-employed designer, said the last few years have been ‘a long, hard time for her and her family’ after suffering from anxiety.
"Mind is excellent at providing help to those who are finding certain circumstances difficult.
“I decided I wanted something positive to come out of my experience,” she said.
“I have suffered from anxiety my whole life but throughout my journey, I have been fortunate to have help from my amazing therapist.
“However, there are so many people out there who aren't able to afford the support I have received.
“Having the option to pick up the phone and to have someone to talk to on the other end to guide you through is so important.
“That is why Mind is excellent at providing help to those who are finding life or certain circumstances difficult.
"Nobody deserves to suffer alone.
“Having someone to talk to gives you a sense that everything is going to be ok and you smile.
“Nobody deserves to suffer alone and that is why Mind is such a fantastic charity.
“I look forward to seeing everyone smiling and raising as much money as possible, therefore putting even more smiles on the people who have received help from Mind.”
The campaign will begin on Tuesday, January 17.
