Next time you’re browsing the supermarket aisles for a bottle of plonk, you may come across a wine blended by a Chester woman.
Food photographer Olimpia Davies, of Sealand Road, had a key role to play in bringing the Rosemount Consumer Blend to the shelves.
She was one of 10 lucky foodies who won a gourmet weekend away in Wiltshire in a competition run by Rosemount.
While there, she entered another competition which saw her tasked with creating a white wine blend that championed Sauvignon Blanc.
Names of seven other grape varietals were hidden and replaced with flavour descriptors, ensuring that participants were forced to let their senses take over.
The rookie vintner – who usually only drinks red wine – won, to her immense surprise.
Judges unanimously declared her zesty blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Vermentino and a hint of Moscato as the top drop and, it’s now available exclusively at Morrisons.
Olimpia said: “I didn’t think I had a chance.
“It was just a bit of fun as I don’t know anything about wine.
“Seeing it on the shelves of Morrisons is very weird, but amazing.”
Clive Donaldson, senior wine sourcing manager at Rosemount, said: “I think her approach reflects the evolution of the British palate, which is now seeking out new and exciting flavours.
"We are always on the lookout for the next big thing and this wine forms part of our increasingly eclectic range of white wines.”
