A couple of friends have joined forces to raise money for the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre as a way of saying thank you.

Upton vet Sarah Heath has been battling cancer for the past year and admits she owes her life to the care she has received from the Breast Care Unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital and the Cancer Centre at Clatterbridge.

Sarah said: “I wanted to pay something back and with the phenomenal support of a school friend’s husband we set about fundraising for the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.”

Sarah’s friend Victoria McGarrell persuaded her husband Wullie to agree to run in the Manchester Marathon as long as Sarah did the fundraising.

Wullie not only completed the marathon but did it in a personal best time of three hours, 30 minutes and 25 seconds and as a result of his efforts and Sarah’s persistence with the fundraising they have managed to raise an amazing £3,000 for the charity.

The champion fundraisers went along to the cancer centre based in Wirral last week to present a cheque to the charity.
