FRESHERS at Chester University have been left feeling cheated after an appearance by Danish band Alphabeat turned out to be a DJ set by one member of the band.
Disappointed students were expecting to see the effervescent pop stars – famous for singles Fascination and Boyfriend – perform live at a capacity CH1 venue on Tuesday.
Student Martyn Hawkins, who contacted The Chronicle, is calling for the students’ union to apologise and offer a refund.
He said: “I am horrified. This is not acceptable.
“The freshers’ week programme said that Alphabeat, a band made up of six members, will be in the SU bar from 8pm. At 11.30pm we were still waiting for one person associated with the band to play their CD collecton.”
SU president Jamie Northop said: “All of our posters, flyers and emails that have been distributed over the past weeks have clearly stated that CH1 will feature ‘Pop sensation Alphabeat’ who will ‘bring their high-octane Swedish house DJ set’.
“We had a member of Alphabeat who DJed a one-and-a -half-hour set which mixed pop hits in an electro house style.
“Overall, the Students’ Union are very happy with how the evening went and hope that this student still had a good evening.”
