CHESTER’S heritage has been brought to life through 21st Century technology.
The city is one of only five UK cities chosen for an mp3 audio tour, alongside London, Edinburgh, York and Manchester.
Walk Talk Tours, the company behind the concept, aims to transform the way visitors experience top heritage destinations by providing a downloadable audio tour that visitors can add to their iPods or mp3 players for a small fee.
Walk Talk Tours founder Phil Nash said: “I was a tour guide as a student and was talking to my brother about getting back into it.
“He said why don’t you do something that can be downloaded and the site went live last year?
“Chester is a great place as it’s compact and is easy to explore on foot and the heritage is unique.
“The Chester tour is a great alternative to the conventional tours where you have to turn up at a set time and place.
“With Walk Talk Tours you can pause, eat and then resume when you are ready.”
The tour starts and ends at the town hall, taking in sites such as the Eastgate Clock and The Cross.
So far people who live in South Africa, USA, Germany and Ireland have downloaded the Chester tour.
The tour voiceover is by Jonathan Keeble, with a welcome from Chester town crier David Mitchell.
Visit Chester & Cheshire groups organiser Heather Beecher said: “It’s important for us to be able to offer the widest possible choice of visitor experience. We need to meet and exceed visitor expectations and this development will certainly help many people get more out of their visit to Chester.”
Walk Talk Tours’ Chester Revealed tour takes about two hours, it costs £5 and comes with a free map. Visit www.walktalktour.com for details.
