CHESTER Theatre Club’s latest production involves wielding axes and decapitation.

Thankfully, though, the axes are made of cardboard and all the blood is fake!

They’re performing an hilarious send-up of historical fantasy, Lettice and Lovage by Peter Shaffer.

Written originally for Maggie Smith, the character of Lettice has great difficulty separating romantic legend from reality.

She and her new chum, Lottie, have great fun re-enacting famous executions of the past in Lettice’s Earl’s Court flat – until the day when the beheading of Charles I goes slightly wrong, with disastrous results.

To make sure everything was legal and above board, Helen Watson of Aaron and Partners Solicitors popped into rehearsals after her firm agreed to sponsor the play.

Lettice and Lovage is showing at The Little Theatre, Gloucester Street, Chester from Saturday, June 29 to Saturday, July 6 at 7.30pm. To book, phone 0844 8700887 or visit www.chestertheatreclub.co.uk.
