CHESTER Theatre Club will be taking their production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth to the Manchester Contact Theatre.

Having had a successful week of performances at the Little Theatre, Chester, they will now be performing in Manchester alongside other amateur companies from the North West as part of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Open Stages project - part of the World Shakespeare Festival 2012.

In the audience will be representatives of the RSC who will give feedback to the actors and possibly invite Chester Little Theatre to Stratford for a showcase performance.

Director Hilary Egan said: “It would be very exciting to be chosen to show our Macbeth in Stratford but we have to be realistic: many companies up and down the country are part of the project – 49 in the North West alone – but we will feel extremely privileged to show an extract of our Shakespeare in his home town.”

With 19 actors in the cast, including three youngsters of 14, 13 and 10, moving the play to the Contact Theatre will be no small undertaking.

Chester Theatre Club’s next production is Art by Yasmina Reza which can be seen from June 30-July 7. Book at the box office on 01244 322674 or visit chestertheatreclub.co.uk.
