A temporary zebra crossing has been put in place on Pepper Street to facilitate building work on the city's long-awaited new dining quarter.

The pedestrian crossing will remain while construction at the site which hosted retail units Chateau and Habitat is ongoing.

A Cheshire West and Chester Council spokesperson said: “To carry out the building work the contractor has had to close the footway.

“A temporary footway could be provided on the road but this would reduce the traffic to one lane past the work. This would cause long delays on the inner ring road.

“A temporary zebra crossing has been installed to help people cross the road to pass the building work.

"The zebra crossing will remain in place while the building work continues.”

The £8m dining quarter project will see four restaurants - Las Iguanas, The Restaurant Bar and Grill, Coast to Coast and Chimichanga - open next summer (2015).
